Registering to work as a GP in Australia – Making light work of the process…
The state of WA is vast – if it were a country it would be the 10th largest country in the world. It has 12,500 km of coastline, is rich in natural resources, has vast wheat stations, is great for wine growing, close to Asia, and closer to the UK than other Australian cities – it is now possible to fly direct Perth to London – and is home to the highest number per capita of self-made millionaires. And if you’re looking for GP jobs in Perth or Western Australia, you will be spoilt for choice!
Out side of Perth and the South West corner, much of the land mass is desert. Curiously, after the rainfalls in Spring, the desert springs to life with wild flowers – for this reason WA is called the wild flower state. This is a site to behold and is a bit of a pilgrimage for the city dwellers.
Most of the incredible wealth of the state rests on the mining of minerals in the arid interior and the north.
It is possible to work as a GP in the less populated areas of the state. It’s even possible to live in Perth and join the ‘fly in -fly out’ brigade to go to work. However the majority of GP jobs in Perth and WA are located in the South Western corner of the state.
This is a great city to live in if you want a laid-back lifestyle, you love the outdoors, want to explore the outback, want an affluent lifestyle with high income to cost of living ratio, enjoy compact city living, and if you love cricket – but then where in Australia do they not love cricket!
Perth, the capital city of WA, has 19 stunning beaches, more sunny days than any other city in Australia, outstanding schools, five world-class universities, art galleries, concert halls, and is home to WACA, famous for international cricket.
The cost of living (particularly housing and consumables) is considerably lower than other major cities in Australia which means that GPs will be able to afford a great lifestyle in and around Perth.
If you’re seeking a GP job in Perth WA, you will find most of the jobs are located just outside the city but it is perfectly possible to be within about 30 to 40 minutes of the centre.
Perth and the South West corner of WA offers great opportunities for UK GPs to work. There are probably more DPA GP jobs in Perth and WA locations in this area than any other similar region in Australia.
